The Big Overview of the Northern School of Internal Alchemy 10 week program:

The Northern School is far and away the most influential school of Internal Alchemy and is the predominant method of the early Complete Reality Sect teachings of Daoism.

Although today the majority of Complete Reality Sect Daoism is represented by the Long Men lineage, the founding master Wang Chongyang actually taught his own Neidan method and each of his seven disciples also proposed their own approaches to practice.

In this ten week course we will take a deep dive into the core writings of the Northern school as taught by several of the most important masters of the style including:

Weeks 1 and 2:

Wang Chongyang's ten discussions and fifteen discussions:

These two short documents describe important methods of preparation for Neidan practice including (but not limited to):

discussing seated meditation,
emptying the heart,
being unpolluted,
easing activities,
true observation,
great stability,
attaining the Dao,
cloud walking,
how to study books,
harmonizing the medicine,

Weeks 3 and 4:

Wang Chongyang's twenty four teachings to Ma Danyang:

this important document is a question and answer text between Wang Chongyang and his top disciple Ma Danyang which explains many key points of the golden elixir including:

what are nature and life?
What is the stem and base?
What are dragon and tiger?
What are lead and mercury?
What is the golden duke?
What is the baby?
What is the heart ape?
What are dragon and snake?
What are the three treasures (internal and external)?
What are the three original deities (Yuanshi Tianzun, Ling Bao Tianzun, Dao De Laojun),
What are the nine stars?
And much more.

Week 5 and 6:

Tan Changzhen Ancestor Teacher Recorded Sayings and Sun Buer Yuan Jun Dharma Sayings:

Tan Changzhen (Chudan) was one of Wang Chongyang's main disciples and left behind information in to his students which are recorded in a small document which deals with topics such as reincarnation, true nature, and how to properly use meditative practice to become liberated from karma.

Sun Buer was the founder of Nv Dan, a special style of Neidan especially for women (even so, many Nv Dan ideas can be used by men as well, just as Neidan can be studied by women).

Five Articles of Numinous Text:

This long document by Wang Chongyang is considered to be received from Dong Fang Di Jun, an important immortal who passed along internal alchemy teachings to ancient Daoists.

This document is a complete method which summarizes the Northern School approach of first refining innate nature and later refining life energy with a special emphasis on the method of realizing the golden elixir.

This is an excellent document and can really help Neidan practitioners of any style, as well as helping to fully clarify the documents covered during the first six weeks of the course.

The Northern School is the most important school of Neidan insofar as it was deeply influential on all other schools as a result of the Long Men tradition being the officially endorsed school of Daoism during the reign of Kublai Khan and for the duration of the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty. This means the the Northern School had an outsized impact on future Neidan thinkers and in my estimation it resides with the Southern School and Middle School as the three essential schools of Neidan which should be learned even if you don't study any other methods.
